1963年創刊の創刊以来、レフェリー制度のもとに国内外の東南アジア研究者の論稿を掲載してきました。
2012年4月、当研究所では『東南アジア研究』創刊50年を機に、英文ジャーナルSoutheast Asian Jounalを創刊することとなりました。これにともない、『東南アジア研究』は50巻1号（2012年度7月発行）より和文誌として編成し年2回刊行することとなりました。
改めて多くのみなさまからのご投稿をお待ち申し上げます。
